In a major push towards digital governance, Andhra Pradesh is set to roll out digital ration cards, enabling citizens to access essential services more efficiently. Minister for IT Nara Lokesh announced that the initiative will allow people to avail ration supplies through a QR code system, eliminating paperwork and streamlining the process.

Speaking at the Ministers and Secretaries Conference, Lokesh emphasized that WhatsApp Governance is becoming a crucial platform for providing government services and ensuring real-time interaction between citizens and the administration. He called on all government departments to integrate their databases with the RTGS Data Lake, ensuring seamless access to official documents and certifications.

Minister Lokesh highlighted the government's broader vision of making all public services available online, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and enhancing accessibility. He noted that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is committed to fully digitizing government services, ensuring that documents such as ration cards, certificates, and permits can be obtained via WhatsApp.

“To issue certificates via WhatsApp, departmental cooperation is essential,” Lokesh stated. “Verification is a critical process, and officials must adopt the necessary technological advancements within their departments to facilitate this transition.”

As part of the digital transformation, the government will soon introduce digital ration cards, replacing physical copies. The new system will allow beneficiaries to access their entitlements using QR codes, making the ration distribution process more transparent and efficient.

Lokesh also mentioned that the government is exploring WhatsApp-based feedback mechanisms to gauge public satisfaction with various welfare programs. “We are considering ways to measure citizen feedback and satisfaction levels through WhatsApp to ensure continuous improvement in service delivery,” he said.

The Minister elaborated on the broader vision for WhatsApp Governance, stating that the goal is to create a unified platform for citizens to book temple darshans, reserve accommodation, access transport services, and obtain essential documents—all within WhatsApp.

“For this to succeed, departments must strengthen their IT infrastructure and work in coordination,” Lokesh added. “This initiative will only be successful through collaboration and active participation from all stakeholders.”
