Sultan Bazar police solved a major cash-in-transit theft case within 48 hours and arrested a 46-year-old driver accused of fleeing with nearly Rs 9.63 lakh meant for bank deposit. The accused, identified as Shaik Rahman, allegedly escaped with two cash bags from a cash collection vehicle on May 19 while staff of a private security agency were depositing money at the SBI Main Branch in Koti.

According to police, the cash custodians and gunman briefly left the vehicle unattended, following which the driver sped away with the cash. The abandoned Toyota Innova Crysta was later found near King Koti District Hospital, while two cash bags containing collections from D-Mart and Mangalya Shopping Mall were missing.

Using technical surveillance and investigation, a special police team tracked the accused to Gulbarga in Karnataka and apprehended him from a guest house near the bus stand on May 21. Police recovered ₹9.53 lakh in cash, a Samsung Galaxy M31 mobile phone, a Tommy Hilfiger bag and the vehicle key from the accused.
