Municipal authorities on Wednesday launched a major drive against illegal constructions, demolishing 12 unauthorized commercial sheds that had allegedly been built without approvals on encroached land. The demolition was carried out on the road leading to Ramareddy Road in Ward No. 19 under tight police security. The action drew attention across the town as the structures were reportedly linked to supporters of leaders from both ruling and opposition political parties.

Municipal, revenue and police officials were present to oversee the demolition and maintain law and order. The structures were razed using earthmoving machinery after the owners allegedly failed to comply with statutory notices. Town Planning Officer Vineeth said the municipal authorities had issued notices to the owners of the structures.

As no valid building permissions or satisfactory explanations were submitted, the demolitions were carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Act. Residents alleged that the practice of erecting sheds overnight on government and private lands and later renting them out for commercial purposes has been continuing for some time.

No leniency towards illegal constructions

Municipal Commissioner Parvathalu said the civic body would initiate legal action against every illegal construction that comes to its notice and that no individual would be exempt from enforcement measures. He appealed to the public to report unauthorized constructions to the municipal authorities. Town Planning Officer Vineeth stated that notices had already been served on several other property owners and warned that any construction undertaken without the required permissions would face demolition.
