Rythu Vedikas suffer due to poor security

The Rythu Vedikas established to serve as knowledge and interaction centers for farmers are reportedly facing neglect, with audio-visual equipment installed at several centers allegedly being stolen due to inadequate security and poor maintenance. The previous BRS government had constructed 55 Rythu Vedikas across Mancherial district, with one center for every 5,000 acres of cultivated land, aiming to provide a common platform for farmers. However, the facilities remained largely underutilized.

After assuming office, the Congress government sought to improve their utility by converting the Rythu Vedikas into audio-visual centers equipped with video conferencing facilities. Initially introduced as a pilot project with one center in each Assembly constituency, the initiative was later expanded after receiving a positive response from farmers. The upgraded centers were designed to provide farmers with access to scientific farming practices, expert guidance, government welfare schemes, and interactions with senior officials and agricultural scientists through video conferencing.

Farmers have also been able to access details about government schemes such as Rythu Bharosa, Rythu Bima, crop loan waivers, agricultural loans, and subsidies through the facilities, similar to the video conferencing systems available at Tahsildar offices.

According to local sources, many of these centers have damaged doors and remain unattended, making them vulnerable to theft. They have urged the authorities to inspect all Rythu Vedikas, assess the condition of the facilities, and take immediate measures to safeguard the remaining equipment and ensure the centers continue to serve farmers as intended.
