Former minister & BRS party working president KTR received a blow in the Supreme Court in a case filed by the State ACB against him. The Supreme Court dismissed his quash petition in the case related to the formula e-car race case. A bench comprising Justices Bela M Trivedi and Prasanna Varai dismissed the petition after hearing it.
It may be mentioned here KTR had recently filed a quash petition in the Telangana High Court seeking quashing of the case registered by the ACB. The High Court refused to do so. He then approached the Supreme Court on January 8 and the petition was filed by him in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order.
Claiming that the case was registered for political reasons, KTR's lawyer Sundaram informed the highest court that he was currently in the Opposition party. He argued that cases were being filed because he was the leader of the Opposition party.
Responding to this, Justice Bela M Trivedi told KTR that he should face cases while being in the Opposition party. The petition was dismissed by the two-judge bench by stating that it could not interfere in the High Court verdict.
KTR's counsel requested the bench that he be given an opportunity to approach the High Court again besides requesting it allow KTR to withdraw his petition. The bench allowed him to withdraw the petition. However, it made it clear that it cannot give him the freedom to go to the High Court again. KTR's lawyer told the court that the petition would be withdrawn.
Meanwhile, KTR will appear before the ED on Thursday for questioning in the Formula E-Car Race Case. KTR, who has already appeared before the ACB in connection with the same case, will now appear before the ED officials again. The ED is investigating the case on the basis of the ACB FIR.
The case was registered on charges of money laundering and violation of FEMA norms, including transfer of Rs 55 crore without following norms by the officials concerned under the pressure of former minister KTR.
