The Andhra Pradesh government undertook a series of policy and administrative reforms in the school education sector during 2025, with the stated objective of improving learning outcomes, strengthening governance mechanisms and aligning the State’s education system with national standards. The initiatives were implemented under the supervision of the School Education Department led by Minister Nara Lokesh.

One of the key developments during the year was the conduct of the Mega District Selection Committee (DSC)recruitment, through which 16,347 teacher posts were filled. This marked the first large-scale teacher recruitment exercise in the State in five years. The recruitment process was completed within a stipulated time frame after resolving pending legal challenges.

The government also enacted the Teacher Transfer Act, providing a statutory framework for teacher transfers and postings. Transfers were carried out through a web-based counselling system, replacing earlier manual processes. According to the Education Department, the system was intended to improve transparency and reduce administrative disputes. In addition, more than 4,000 teachers received promotions across various cadres during the year.

As part of efforts to support student well-being, the government introduced “No Bag Day” every Saturday, focusing on co-curricular activities, sports, arts and life-skills education. To reduce the administrative workload on teachers, multiple departmental mobile applications were consolidated into a single digital platform, enabling centralised access to student performance data and school-level reporting.

Curriculum-related changes included the adoption of an NCERT-aligned syllabus, the introduction of bilingual textbooks, and the use of QR-code-enabled digital content. The department also expanded programmes related to Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), digital literacy and competency-based learning. These initiatives were brought under an integrated framework titled Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh (LEAP), aimed at improving instructional quality in government schools.

Under the LEAP programme, the government proposed the development of 175 model schools, one in each Assembly constituency, with upgraded infrastructure. Additionally, 9,600 model primary schools were established with a focus on the “one class, one teacher” approach to improve classroom engagement.

In regard to student welfare, the government distributed Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Student Kits to 35.94 lakh students for the 2025-26 academic year. New school uniforms in neutral colours were also introduced statewide. Parental participation was encouraged through statewide Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) held in July and December. According to official data, more than 53 lakh parents and teachers participated across government schools. The July PTM was recognised by Guinness World Records for large-scale participation.

The Education Department also organised programmes on yoga education, environmental awareness through the Green Passport initiative, and values-based education, including workshops and special sessions. On Constitution Day, students participated in a Mock Assembly held at the Amaravati Assembly premises to familiarise them with democratic processes, in the presence of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
