Hyderabad: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad branch office, conducted a raid at a Mobile Accessories and Electronics Shop at Sultan Bazaar, Koti, and Hyderabad for violation of the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.
During the raid, BIS officials seized stock of mobile chargers bearing spurious BIS registration marks i.e. without any valid BIS registration number. These were found stored and offered for sale without the mandatory BIS certification. These products fall under the purview of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India, making BIS certification compulsory.
This act constitutes a clear violation of Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016, which prohibits the sale, storage, or distribution of goods covered under QCOs without appropriate BIS Certification. In order to prevent manufacturers or retailers from distributing fake goods and mislead the wider populace, BIS initiated search and seizure operations based on information of misuse. BIS urges all manufacturers, importers, and e-commerce platforms to ensure compliance with the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.
