Blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design, Dr. Rambabu Muppidi—a Telugu artisan, designer, and educator—has received his 14th design patent for a unique creation titled “Table Top Decorative Toy Car.” Officially granted by the Indian Patent Office on Friday, July 4, 2025, the design stands as a symbol of India’s rich toy-making heritage reimagined for today’s generation.
Dr. Muppidi, a faculty member at FDDI Hyderabad’s School of Leather Goods & Accessories Design (LGAD), is known for his deep-rooted work in preserving indigenous crafts. His latest innovation—a handcrafted, child-safe toy car—is not just decorative but educational, designed to aid motor skill development and imaginative play among children.
The toy car draws inspiration from iconic wooden crafts of Kondapalli, Etikoppaka, and Nirmal, blending heritage aesthetics with contemporary functionality. Crafted using safe, sustainable materials, it encourages storytelling, sand play, and early learning—making it more than a showpiece.
This patent (Design No. 450244-001) is part of a larger initiative led by Dr. Muppidi, under which 26 designs have been submitted, and 14 granted to date. The legal process was supported by Subhajit Saha, Head of Legal & IPR and Founder of Resolute 4IP.
A national award-winning design researcher, Dr. Muppidi continues to inspire the next generation of designers to innovate with purpose, cultural sensitivity, and sustainability at the core.
