Minister for Tourism, Culture and Excise Jupally Krishna Rao stated that there are ample opportunities for development of tourism sector in Telangana. He noted that the State government is actively working to enhance employment opportunities within this sector through the implementation of targeted initiatives.
During the visit to the Somashila Wellness and Spiritual Retreat Nallamala Project, the Minister explored various locations, including Somashila, Amaragiri, Kalvakurthi Lift Irrigation project, Narlapur Reservoir, Madhavaswamy Temple in Kollapur, and the Jetaprolu Madanagopala Swamy Temple to assess tourism development opportunities on-site.
Accompanying Jupally Krishna Rao were Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary; Kranthi Vallur, Managing Director of the Tourism Development Corporation; District Collector Badawat Santosh; and other officials. He said an allocation of Rs. 68.10 crore has been approved for the Somashila Wellness and Spiritual Retreat Nallamala project through the ‘Special Assistance to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment’ scheme.
Jupally emphasised that officials should prioritise the use of these funds to enhance the development of Somashila, Amaragiri Island, and Eagalapenta, which boast rich environmental resources, water sources, temples, as well as opportunities for water sports and adventure activities.
Following this, the Minister conducted a review meeting with officials from the Tourism department to discuss the proposals and initiatives related to the Somashila project at the Kollapur camp office. During the meeting, the Minister highlighted that the tourism sector would progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, with a commitment to elevate key tourist sites to international standards. He noted ongoing efforts to attract both domestic and international tourists.
He stated that steps are being taken to ensure that there is a boating jetty in Somashila, a boating jetty on Amaragiri Island, cottages, a swimming pool, a cafeteria, a spa, a wellness center, indoor and outdoor games, and other facilities.
