State Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu on Wednesday instructed the officials to bring the Budamaru retaining wall to the safety line by June 10. Minister Nimmala along with Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad inspected the renovation wall works being constructed at a cost of Rs 28 crore at Kondapalli in NTR district. Speaking to the media he said that the construction of a retaining wall has been started in the breached area which was rectified earlier.
The Minister said that a proposal has been prepared to increase the Budamaru diversion channel to 37,500 cusecs and complete the pending works. He said the DPR is under preparation so that the Budamaru flood passes through Kolleru and Upputeru to the sea. Minister Ramanaidu added that plans are afoot to develop another new channel parallel to the Budamaru old channel with a capacity of 20,000 cusecs.
He said proposals have been prepared to go ahead with the central assistance under disaster management to control the Budamaru floods. He also mentioned that the municipal, revenue and disaster management departments would coordinate and submit the proposals to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad said that due to the intensity of the floods which occurred in previous year in Mylavaram constituency, the tanks and streams in many places have caved in. The MLA asked the minister to fill them up immediately. He also appealed for funds for the works done in the past. TDP state executive secretary Jampala Seetharamaiah, Jana Sena party state spokesperson Akkala Ramamohana Rao (Gandhi), water resources department chief engineer Venkateswara Rao, officials and TDP leaders participated in the event.
