London: British lawmaker Jess Asato has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI, alleging that fake bikini images of her were generated using the Grok chatbot without her consent.
Asato, a Labour Party legislator, said the images were created in January after she criticised the spread of deepfake pornography online.
She has filed a claim in the High Court in London, alleging misuse of private information under the Data Protection Act.
The lawmaker is seeking damages and hopes the case will establish that companies can be held accountable for the design of their AI systems.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer backed the legal action, saying he supported Asato “100%”.
Following global criticism over deepfake pornography, xAI announced in January that Grok users would no longer be allowed to edit images of real people to remove their clothing. xAI did not immediately comment on the lawsuit. —PTI
