Washington: An Indian national has been indicted in the US in a high-speed car crash that killed his pregnant teenage partner and her unborn child in Ohio.

According to Newsweek, 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes was travelling in a Range Rover Velar on Feb 16 when the vehicle allegedly fled law enforcement, triggering a pursuit.

Authorities said the SUV, initially recorded at 79 mph in a 55 mph zone, exceeded 120 mph before the driver lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic, struck a Jeep and overturned several times. Holmes was ejected and died from her injuries. Her unborn child also died.

Tarsem Singh, 33, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide and aggravated vehicular homicide. He is being held on a $1 million bond. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against him, potentially leading to deportation proceedings after the criminal case.
