BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju has called for a judicial inquiry into the fire incident at the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), raising serious concerns over possible foul play and alleged evidence destruction.
Sravan, in a press statement, questioned the timing of the fire, claiming that the incident occurring in a section housing sensitive case files raises suspicion of a “calculated conspiracy”. He also criticised the alleged absence of digital backups, calling it unacceptable in an era of advanced technology. "In this era of advanced technology, claiming that crucial evidence is lost without a data backup is an insult to public intelligence.
Is this an 'Organized Conspiracy' to shield the powerful? The masterminds behind this 'incineration of truth' must be exposed. If the state’s highest forensic lab lacks basic fire safety, where will common citizens find justice? While it’s a relief that four employees escaped, it appears the truth has been buried inside. Failure to conduct a transparent probe will confirm the government’s complicity in this crime", he remarked.
The BRS MLC demanded a probe by a sitting High Court judge, a white paper on data recovery and status of sensitive case files, and structural reforms within the FSL. Further, he opposed the appointment of IPS officers as FSL Directors, arguing that the laboratory should be headed by a qualified forensic scientist to ensure autonomy and avoid conflict of interest.
