In the past, bureaucrats explained the pros and cons and possible consequences of every issue to the political executive. Today, however such a healthy system is on the wane due to various reasons. Officials should analyze issues and explain political decisions to leaders, said Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He was speaking at the retired IAS officer M Gopala Krishna’s book launch “Life of a Karma Yogi" here on Sunday.

He further added, “Earlier, IAS officers mingled with people and citizens also remembered officials more than politicians. I have been in touch with IAS officers for the last 20 years and have witnessed the decline. Collectors are not leaving their AC rooms and staying away from meeting people in recent times. There is a need for a change in ‘thinking’ and ‘decision making’.”

“I am not at all happy with the present situation in the way of thought process of IAS officers. My officers have to perform, I can only make policies,” said Chief Minister Revanth.

The Chief Minister said that M Gopala Krishna started his career in 1962 and has seen a closed economy and the transition to an open economy. The new generation IAS officers can learn from his experience. He said that putting together 60 years of experience in a book is no mean task and the book should adorn the book shelves of every IAS officer.

We can buy anything in the world but not experience. Hope this books helps as a guide to all serving civil servants. Gopala Krishna is a live witness to the rapid changes that witnessed the country from decades to till the date, he said.

On this occasion, we should remember three prominent persons-  Sankaran, TN Seshan and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.  Sankaran was a distinguished officer who worked with a commitment. Seshan was also an  efficient administrator who brought a  revolutionary movement in conducting  elections transparently.  Former PM Manmohan Singh led the country on the path of economic development. Civil servants should learn a lot  from their experiences.

Government will recognise the services of the committed officials. The officials should be proactive in helping the poor.  The efficient officials will only make their own mark in the hearts of people. Appealing to all officials to focus on connecting people in the state. He said that a session would be conducted for IAS officers with M Gopalakrishna to gain knowledge on governance. The event was attended by Chief Secretary Shanthi Kumari, Finance Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, along with several other IAS officers.
