Cabinet approves DAs for employees

The Telangana Cabinet has taken several key decisions concerning government employees and pensioners, drought conditions, paddy procurement, electricity generation and irrigation projects. The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday.

Two DAs approved for employees and pensioners

The Cabinet approved the release of two pending Dearness Allowances (DAs) for state government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners. The two instalments have been pending since 2024. The government decided to release the two DAs immediately, while arrears accumulated since then will be paid in instalments. The additional financial burden on the state government is estimated at around Rs 2,500 crore annually.

Cabinet discusses El Niño and drought conditions

The Cabinet held an extensive discussion on the prevailing El Niño conditions and the rainfall situation in Telangana. The state has recorded a rainfall deficit of around 17% during the current monsoon season, according to the government. With the monsoon season ending, drought-like conditions have reportedly emerged in around 235 mandals due to severe rainfall shortages. 

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also directed officials to convene an all-party meeting soon. A delegation of state ministers is expected to travel to New Delhi to meet Union ministers and present the state’s situation.

Paddy procurement preparations

The Cabinet directed officials to make arrangements for procurement of paddy during the kharif season. The Civil Supplies Department estimates that around 65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is to be procured during the season. Officials have been instructed to take all necessary measures to ensure that procurement operations are conducted smoothly.

Power demand hits record high

Telangana’s normal daily peak electricity demand is around 15,000 MW. During the current season, peak demand reached a record 19,892 MW, or nearly 20,000 MW.  The Cabinet approved proposals targeting approximately 7,800 MW of additional power capacity, including 3,000 MW of solar power; 4,000 MW through battery energy storage systems and 800 MW of wind power The projects will be taken up through a bidding process in accordance with Central government regulations.

World-class fruit market planned at Koheda

The Cabinet decided to expedite work on a proposed world-class integrated fruit market at Koheda in Abdullapurmet mandal of Rangareddy district. The Cabinet directed that the market should be developed entirely with government funds.

10 projects to be stopped

Officials were instructed to cancel projects taken up under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model if they remain incomplete, in accordance with earlier government directions. As part of the review, the Cabinet approved the discontinuation of 10 EPC irrigation projects.

Digital media advertising policy approved

The Cabinet considered a proposal to introduce a dedicated policy for digital media advertising in Telangana. It approved the state’s digital advertising policy in line with the Digital Advertisement Policy formulated by the Union government’s Central Bureau of Communication.

New posts approved at Telangana Bhavan

The Cabinet approved the creation of a Deputy Commissioner post in the office of the Resident Commissioner at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi. It also decided to appoint four additional Group-I officers to represent and work on behalf of the Telangana government in the national capital.

World-class fruit market planned at Koheda

The Telangana Cabinet has decided to expedite work on the proposed world-class integrated fruit market at Koheda in Abdullapurmet mandal of Rangareddy district. The Cabinet directed officials to speed up the project and develop the market entirely with government funds, aiming to create modern infrastructure and facilities for farmers, traders and consumers.
