Three individuals, including a cattle transporter, were arrested on Thursday in connection with an attempted murder case involving a 28-year-old ‘Gau Rakshak’ activist who was shot and injured near Ghatkesar. The incident took place Wednesday evening when the prime accused, a 24-year-old cattle transporter, allegedly opened fire on B Prashanth Kumar, also known as Sonu Singh.
According to police reports, Kumar was summoned to a location by a friend, where he met the other accused and engaged in a discussion lasting about an hour. The accused confronted Kumar over his efforts to expose their illegal cattle transportation activities. During the heated argument, the main suspect retrieved a gun from his vehicle and shot Kumar in the right chest before fleeing the scene with the others. Authorities quickly responded, rushing Kumar to the hospital, where surgery was performed to remove the bullet. His condition has been reported as stable and out of danger.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu revealed that the accused and victim had been in regular contact since July and had met several times. The investigation indicated the shooting was retaliation for Kumar’s actions, which allegedly caused the cattle transporter a loss estimated at Rs one crore by intercepting his vehicles. There was also a reported dispute over a Rs 5 lakh demand to stop Kumar’s activities. Special police teams arrested three of the four suspects at Shamshabad, seizing a country-made pistol and a car.
