In a show of tech-driven policing, a suspect wanted in a sexual harassment case in Karnataka was tracked and arrested in Tirupati using Andhra Pradesh’s advanced CCTV network. The breakthrough came through the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) “CCTV 360” system, which traced the accused’s vehicle across locations and alerted police in real time. After the suspect went absconding, Karnataka police sought help from Andhra Pradesh authorities, sharing vehicle details.
Using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), the system tracked the vehicle’s movement and pinpointed its location in Tirupati, enabling swift arrest by local police. Officials said the CCTV 360 platform, integrated with over 14,000 cameras, is proving vital in crime detection. It provides real-time alerts on vehicle movement, helping police respond quickly. Recent cases underline its impact. In Tiruvuru, a theft case was solved within hours after tracking a stolen motorcycle across districts. In Ongole, a hit-and-run case was cracked after cameras identified the vehicle and alerted police to its route.
Powered by AI and ANPR, the system monitors traffic and suspicious activity, significantly reducing response time and strengthening law enforcement, officials said.
