Union Minister for Coal and Mines  G. Kishan Reddy said on Thursday that with the Price Deficiency Payment (PDP-Price Deficiency Payment) under the Central Government's Market Intervention Scheme(MIS), Telangana chilli farmers would  benefit and Central Government will pay the Minimum Support Price(MSP). He said the Union Agriculture Ministry would ensure that chilli farmers would be provided with at least the cost of cultivation.

On April 4, 2025, Kishan Reddy wrote a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan requesting him to take steps to ensure that chilli farmers in Telangana do not suffer any loss. He said the farmers were  suffering financially as they are  getting lower prices than the cultivation price in the open market. He requested Chouhan to help them.

Responding to this, the Union Agriculture Ministry has announced that the difference between the market price and the cultivation cost will be paid to the farmers under the Market Intervention Scheme. The MIS price for chilli crop has been fixed at Rs. 10,374 per quintal. The state government will first have to deposit the difference between MIS and market price in the accounts of the farmers

“State government will have to bear 50 percent of this cost, and the Central government will reimburse the remaining amount .Only the farmers who sell their chilli crops in recognized APMC markets will benefit under the market intervention scheme. With the aim of ensuring that farmers get a minimum price when crop prices fluctuate, the Central government recently brought the Pradhan Mantri Aya Surakshan Abhiyan (PM Asha) scheme and also the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for horticultural products including chilli,” Minister Kishan Reddy  said.
