In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a special security mock drill was conducted on Thursday night at the Vijayawada Railway Station, one of the busiest junctions in Andhra Pradesh.

The drill was aimed at evaluating preparedness and ensuring that no untoward incidents take place amid the current security climate. The exercise was supervised by GRP Inspector J.V. Ramana and RPF Assistant Security Commissioner Kota Joji, and involved five specialized teams comprising railway police and dog squads.

As part of the operation, all platforms, foot overbridges, passenger rest areas, ticket counters, booking offices, and parcel sections were thoroughly searched. The drill extended beyond the station premises to nearby high-density areas such as the flower market and the diesel loco shed, where officials inspected luggage and verified the identities of individuals who appeared suspicious. Officials also reviewed the functioning of all CCTV cameras installed within the station premises.

“The drill was not just a test of coordination and response but also an awareness-building exercise for security personnel, helping them understand the protocols to follow in emergency situations. More importantly, it was designed to reassure passengers of their safety, reinforcing public confidence in the railway’s preparedness,” JV Ramana, GRP Inspector.
