The Charminar Police initiated legal action against five women petty vendors for allegedly obstructing pedestrian movement on the busy tourist stretch between Gulzar House, Charminar and Mecca Masjid.

Police said the women were repeatedly found selling artificial flower items on the pedestrian-only road despite several warnings to clear the pathway meant for tourists and devotees visiting the heritage sites. The vendors, originally from Rajasthan and currently residing near TKR Kaman in Meerpet, were booked on May 23 under Section 66-C of the CP Act and Section 292 of the BNS.

On Sunday, the five women were produced before the 1st Special Judicial Magistrate Court, which convicted them and imposed a fine of Rs. 200 each. The court also directed them to perform social service at the Charminar Police Station until 5 pm on the same day.

Police warned that strict action would continue against encroachments on pedestrian routes in the heritage zone.
