Chilkur Balaji Temple chief priest  C.S. Rangarajan has welcomed the appointment of former Chief Justice of India Justice B.R. Gavai as the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Chair Professor on Constitutional Law and Social Inclusion at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. Describing the move as timely,  Rangarajan said Dr B.R. Ambedkar viewed the Constitution as a moral instrument, with constitutional morality rooted in Dharma - the ethical force that protects life, dignity and equality beyond political or popular pressures.Referring to India’s spiritual traditions and the Tiruppan Alwar Ammal Doctrine, he said the country’s constitutional ethos upholds equality irrespective of birth or status, values long practised at Chilkur Balaji Temple through social inclusion and equal access.Drawing a comparison with some South Asian nations, the chief priest observed that the absence of strong constitutional morality has often left dignity and life vulnerable to religious or political pressures.

Rangarajan expressed confidence that under Justice Gavai, the Ambedkar Chair would emerge as a national centre for constitutional ethics, and thanked NALSAR and the Telangana government for supporting an initiative linking law, morality and social harmony.
