Chilkur Temple to hold Varuna Japam for rains

Metro India News | Hyderabad : Amid concerns over deficient rainfall and its impact on agriculture, a traditional Varuna Japam rain-invoking ritual is being organised by the priests of the renowned Chilkur Balaji Temple to pray for will be performed at Gandipet on Tuesday, July 21, from 8.30 am to 11 am. The age-old Vedic timely monsoon showers and the welfare of society. The prayers will be held in the waters of Osmansagar (Gandipet), a major reservoir near the temple on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Vedic scholars and temple priests, led by C.S. Lakshmi Narasimhan, will stand in waist-deep water while performing the rituals.

The ritwiks, led by Dr V. Srirama Ghanapati of Vedabhavanam, will chant the Varuna Japam from the Taittiriya Samhita of the Vedas 108 times, invoking the blessings of Lord Balaji, Varuna—the deity of water—and Lord Indra, the god of rain. The special prayer is intended to seek abundant rainfall, protect standing crops and replenish rivers and reservoirs across Telangana.
