Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that adopting a circular economy model nationwide could boost dairy farmers’ income by 20 per cent over the next five years. He was speaking at Sanadar village in Gujarat’s Vav-Tharad district during the inauguration of Banas Dairy’s bio-CNG and fertiliser plant, along with the ground-breaking ceremony for its upcoming milk powder facility.

Shah praised Banas Dairy for developing a successful circular economy model that generates additional income for farmers by converting cattle dung into biogas and bio-fertiliser. He said he had brought several Members of Parliament to Banaskantha to study this model so it can be replicated across the country.

He noted that while cooperatives have traditionally focused on milk procurement and product sales, the next major opportunity lies in monetising by-products such as biogas, fertiliser, and even leather from cattle that die naturally. Shah added that a detailed implementation plan will be framed at an MP meeting later in the day, and that top cooperative dairy leaders from across India will visit Banas Dairy in January 2026 to understand its innovations.

Highlighting global demand for specialised dairy products that are not widely produced in India, Shah urged cooperatives to diversify to enhance farmer earnings. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured financial and technological support to enable dairies to adopt circular processes under the ‘White Revolution 2.0’ vision.

Shah also lauded the role of women dairy farmers in strengthening the sector, noting their success in building systems that ensure direct deposit of their earnings into bank accounts.
