CM emphasised that welfare programmes including the Super Six schemes, were raising living standards for the poor
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday reiterated his government’s commitment to fulfilling the “house for all” promise by 2029, assuring that every eligible family in Andhra Pradesh will own a house site. Participating virtually in a programme to distribute house site titles to 633 beneficiaries in Bhagat Singh Colony, Nellore, the CM said urban poor would receive two cents and rural poor three cents of residential land, while long-term occupants of government land would have their plots regularised.
The event, held on Raksha Bandhan, was described by the CM as “particularly satisfying,” especially as women beneficiaries received their titles. “Wherever there is an opportunity to help the poor, the coalition government will step forward,” Naidu said, congratulating Minister and local MLA P. Narayana for resolving technical hurdles and ensuring titles for women residents.
The CM emphasised that welfare programmes including the “Super Six” schemes, pensions, free gas, Thalliki Vandhanam cash transfers, Annadatha Sukhibhava, and Anna Canteens were raising living standards for the poor. Free RTC bus travel for women, starting this Independence Day, would bring further benefits, he said.
Two beneficiaries, Mastanamma and Syed Sabiha, expressed gratitude to the CM, saying they had lived in the colony for decades but received titles only now, crediting the new government for fulfilling a long-delayed promise. They alleged that the previous administration had deceived them under the guise of title distribution, whereas the current government, with Narayana’s support, had delivered results.
Bhagat Singh Colony, located in the 54th Division along Venkateswarapuram Highway, has been home to around 1,400 poor families for over 20 years. Initially marked by thatched huts and lacking basic amenities, the colony saw infrastructure improvements only after the TDP came to power in 2014, with roads, drinking water, drainage, and street lighting installed.
Efforts to grant house titles before 2019 were stalled, and the subsequent change in government halted the process. After returning to power, the coalition government expedited the title allotment, completing surveys and verifying records. The Cabinet approved titles for 1,429 residents, with the first batch of 633 distributed online by the CM. The remaining beneficiaries are set to receive their documents in subsequent phases.
Naidu reaffirmed that the title distribution drive was part of a broader mission to provide secure housing, improve living conditions, and enhance the dignity of the state’s poorest citizens.
