CM unveils Skill push with innovative courses

Skill University to get Research Centre, Foreign Language hub

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Skill Development Department to transform Telangana's skilling ecosystem by strengthening overseas employment support, expanding industry oriented training and promoting research and innovation at the Young India Skill University (YISU).

Reviewing the department's functioning with Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy and senior officials on Friday, the Chief Minister said the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) should provide comprehensive assistance to job aspirants, beginning with passport facilitation and extending to overseas placements. He instructed officials to establish partnerships with manpower companies abroad to ensure safe and transparent recruitment while protecting the interests of workers employed overseas.

Observing that many workers from North Telangana migrate to Middle Eastern countries and often become victims of fraudulent agents, the Chief Minister directed officials to maintain a database of recruitment agencies and register details of every worker sent abroad. He also announced that a retired Indian Foreign Service officer would be appointed as TOMCOM Chief Executive Officer to strengthen oversight and international coordination.

To enhance employability, the Chief Minister instructed officials to introduce Light Motor Vehicle and Heavy Motor Vehicle driving training and facilitate internships in leading companies for students pursuing engineering, ITI, Polytechnic and Advanced Technology Centre courses. He said internships would enable students to earn stipends while gaining valuable industry experience.

Revanth Reddy directed officials to establish a Research Centre at Young India Skill University to promote innovation and applied research. He also called for the creation of a dedicated Foreign Languages Wing offering training in German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Russian and other international languages with support from both local experts and native instructors.

The Chief Minister further suggested examining a scholarship programme for students undergoing skill training for blue collar occupations, similar to overseas education scholarships.

Highlighting emerging industry requirements, he instructed officials to introduce Electric Vehicle servicing and Drone Technology courses at Advanced Technology Centres to meet growing demand in the automotive and agriculture sectors.

Stressing the increasing global demand for qualified nurses, particularly in ageing societies, Revanth Reddy directed officials to grant approvals for new nursing colleges in line with future workforce requirements and international employment opportunities. He also instructed that relocated trees be planted across the Skill University campus as part of its green development initiative.
