In what can be termed as an overdrive, the Cyberabad Police have been reaching out to people, especially the vulnerable groups and individuals providing tips and awareness in combating cybercrimes. On December 17, 2024, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty, launched Project P.R.O.T.E.C.T. (Preventing Risks Online through Education, Collaboration, and Training) and ever since have been conducting a massive outreach programme. Till date, the department has reached out to more than 4 lakh people in the city.
This massive outreach effort saw the participation of 130 police personnel, 170 volunteers from corporates under SCSC, ifocus Mission, and Rotary Club Legends, 105 NCC cadets, and students from Young India Skill University.
The project focuses on Cybercrime prevention through its three core pillars like Education, Collaboration, and Training. As part of this project, a mega Cybercrimes awareness drive was conducted across the Cyberabad Commissionerate on Wednesday, in collaboration with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC).
The day-long drive covered multiple locations, including three parks, ten tiffin centres, 17 colleges, five malls, six communities, 12 traffic signals, 30 banks, five corporate and metros, bus stops, hospitals, cafes and restaurants.
Vulnerable groups and individuals at high risk were identified through victim profiling and were targeted with programs to educate them about cybercrimes and mechanisms to report. To maximize impact, the Commissionerate collaborated with FM Radio to reach more than one lakh listeners and social media influencers, spreading key messages on Cybercrime prevention to over 1,00,000 followers.
This drive is part of Cyberabad Police’s ongoing commitment to creating a cyber-safe eco-system through innovative campaigns and active community involvement, to reach large and diverse sections of society.
The awareness drive was led by DCP Cybercrimes Sreebala, supported by ACPs Ravinder Reddy, Chandrakanth, Inspectors and SIs of Cybercrimes Cyberabad, Bhanu Murthy, Senior Manager SCSC. DCPs Rajendranagar, Shamshabad also attended the awareness programs.
