A high-level ministers’ committee convened at the Velagapudi Secretariat on Friday to deliberate on the implementation of the Rule of Reservation in promotions for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) employees across government departments.
The meeting was attended by Ministers Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneyaswamy, Gummadi Sandhya Rani, Nadendla Manohar, Anagani Satyaprasad, and Satyakumar Yadav, along with several senior bureaucrats and legal advisors. The committee conducted a detailed review of how the reservation rule is being implemented in promotions in various states, and also discussed the implications of key judicial verdicts delivered on the subject in recent years.
The committee decided to hold another round of deliberations after conducting a more in-depth study on the subject. It emphasized that any final decision on the matter would be made after thorough examination, taking into account legal precedents, best practices from other states, and the need to avoid inconvenience to any section of employees.
The issue of reservation in promotions has been a matter of legal scrutiny and administrative debate in several Indian states, with differing approaches being taken based on state-specific policies and judicial interpretations. Andhra Pradesh’s ministers’ committee now aims to formulate a policy that is both legally robust and socially equitable.
