Hyderabad: The State government has initiated steps to officially recognise the services and sacrifices of Telangana movement activists. The “Committee for the Recognition of Telangana Movement Activists” held its first meeting on Saturday at the residence of government advisor Dr K. Keshava Rao in Banjara Hills.

The committee discussed identification procedures, eligibility criteria and future action plans. Constituted on the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the panel aims to recognise those who participated in the Telangana statehood movement.

Students, employees, political leaders and civil society groups played key roles in the agitation, during which many activists lost their lives, suffered disabilities or faced imprisonment.

Dr Keshava Rao will chair the committee. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC M. Kodandaram and others are members. The panel will recommend honours, recognition and welfare measures for activists.
