Residents of Hyderabad have filed 37 complaints with the city’s public grievance platform, raising alarms over encroachments and pollution in lakes and flood channels. Citizens reported illegal constructions within the FTL (Full Tank Level) limits of lakes, along with dumping of plastic waste, contaminating water bodies. They also pointed out that some individuals are encroaching up to 50 meters into existing layouts, occupying roads, and building structures without regard for public spaces such as parks and streets.
Representatives from several localities said they have been fighting for decades to protect land meant for public use. Complaints highlighted that flood channels are being ignored, with constructions blocking natural water flow. Encroachments on bus stops intended for public transport were also raised as a major concern. The Additional Commissioner of Hyderabad, R. Sudarshan, reviewed the complaints and directed authorities to take immediate corrective action.
Among the grievances, Venkateshwara Colony Phase-2 layout reported that 1,200 square yards reserved for a bus terminal are being illegally occupied using fraudulent documents, denying bus access to nearby colonies.
