Experts Highlight Breakthroughs in Vocal Fold Paralysis, Early Glottic Cancer & Next-Gen Laryngeal Surgery
Live CO₂ Laser Surgery Demonstration and Global Faculty Participation Mark a Milestone in ENT Education
Hyderabad, November 16, 2025: The Department of ENT & Head and Neck Surgery at Continental Hospitals successfully organised a two-day National Conference and CME in Laryngology, held at Continental Hospitals, Gachibowli, Hyderabad on 15th and 16th November 2025, which concluded today. The conference focused on the latest advancements in managing unilateral vocal fold paralysis, early glottic cancer, and new-age surgical techniques for laryngeal disorders. The programme featured globally acclaimed faculty, including Prof. Carsten Palme from Chris O’Brien Hospital, Sydney—an internationally renowned laryngeal surgeon—and Dr. Jayakumar Menon from Trivandrum, who shared their expert insights and clinical excellence with attending delegates.
Unilateral vocal fold paralysis is a condition where one vocal fold loses mobility, causing persistent hoarseness and, at times, swallowing difficulty. Timely medical intervention is crucial to restore normal voice function. Early glottic cancer, if not detected promptly, may spread locally and complicate treatment. Individuals who smoke, consume alcohol, or experience hoarseness lasting more than three weeks are strongly advised to undergo early laryngoscopic evaluation. Early detection significantly improves the chance of cure, especially with CO₂ laser–assisted tumour excision.
A highlight of the event was a live CO₂ laser surgical demonstration on a patient with vocal fold cancer, which received tremendous appreciation from participants for its educational value and precision. Continental Hospitals’ state-of-the-art Laryngeal and Voice Centre, led by Dr. Dushyant Ganesan along with a strong team of consultants, speech pathologists, and rehabilitation specialists, continues to offer cutting-edge care. The centre specialises in advanced procedures such as injection laryngoplasty, Type 1 thyroplasty, and CO₂ laser surgery.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Guru N. Reddy, Founder and Chairman of Continental Hospitals, reflected on his decades of experience in the United States and how they helped shape Continental’s world-class laryngology department. He highlighted global advancements in ENT, Head & Neck surgery and encouraged young ENT surgeons to embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, tissue regeneration, 3D printing, biologics, and robotic techniques to advance clinical excellence.
The conference was attended by over 150 delegates, including postgraduate trainees and specialists from various parts of India and abroad. Members of the Telangana and Hyderabad branches of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI) actively participated in the programme. Eminent national faculty including Dr. Sanjay Subbaiah, Dr. Akshay Kudpaje, Dr. Manjunath MK, Dr. Manju Issac, Dr. Vishnu Swaroop Reddy N, Dr. Asheesh Dora G, and Dr. Madhav K contributed their expertise. Prof. Palme’s vision on the current and future landscape of laryngology was widely appreciated by all attendees.
