The Minister for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Vakiti Srihari sanctioned a fish seedlings centre at Ghanpur. He said that Telangana should establish itself as a leading brand in fish production. Speaking as Chief Guest at a free fish seedling distribution event at Dharmasagar reservoir in Hanamkonda district, the Minister highlighted that the Congress government has successfully allocated an impressive budget of Rs 122 crore to the Fisheries department.
He noted that 84 crore fish seedlings and 10 crore prawn seedlings are being distributed free of cost, with a full subsidy, across 26,000 water bodies throughout Telangana. Furthermore, minister Srihari announced that signboards will be placed near each reservoir and pond to indicate the number of fish seedlings being released, which will also display contact information for fisheries officials and police officers.
He said there is a great need to popularise fish like chicken and mutton and steps will be taken to ensure that fish dishes are included in the mid-day meal scheme .On the occasion, the Minister announced the sanction of a fish seedlings centre for the Station Ghanpur constituency.
