The sleuths of the Special Operations Team (SOT), Medchal Zone, along with officials from the Agricultural Department and Shamirpet Police, conducted joint operation and arrested a person involved in transporting spurious cotton seeds with the intention of selling them to unsuspecting farmers.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 3750 kg of spurious BG-III cotton seeds (which are banned by the Government of Telangana), along with one DCM vehicle and a mobile phone, all valued at Rs 98.75 Lakhs. Accused person was identified as Surimilla Naresh, resident of Mancherial district and he is an owner and driver of the vehicle.

A person named Sollu Suresh from Mancherial, hired arrested person Naresh (driver), for transportation of prohibited (BG-III) Cotton Seeds from a person named Ramana in Kushtagi, Karnataka to Mancherial. Sollu Suresh promised Naresh a rental of 50,000 rupees for the job. Naresh, hoping for more money, took his DCM Eicher Vehicle and went to Kushtagi, where Ramaiah took an empty vehicle to an unknown place and returned back the vehicle loaded with 150 bags (3750 KG) of banned cotton seeds.

Sollu Suresh, along with the Surimilla Naresh (driver), planned to transport these cotton seeds to Mancherial District. Aware of the demand for BG-III cotton seeds in the market, they intended to sell the seeds for personal monetary gain. On Wednesday, while transporting the seeds to Mancherial, the vehicle was intercepted on the road leading to Thumukunta village from ORR Exit No-7 near Shamirpet.
