The scammers extorted nearly Rs 1.5 crore from the former chief engineer in Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad. The victim received a phone call stating that his name had come up in a case and that an investigation would be conducted in the Supreme Court. They told him that the justice himself was investigating the case.

The victim believed that the phone call and the video call were from the SC judge. Within a few minutes, the fake judge came on the video call. He warned the engineer that this case was serious and that he would have to be arrested. The fake judge told him to deposit the money in the SC account regarding the case.

He convinced him that the money would be returned once the case was over. The retired chief engineer, who believed the fake judge, deposited about Rs 1.50 crore in the bank as instructed. After days passed, the retired chief engineer realized that he had been cheated, approached the Rachakonda police. The police, who registered a case, have started an investigation.
