The Cyberabad police have arrested the prime suspect in the high-profile ‘iBomma piracy website’ case on Friday. The accused, Immadhi Ravi, is alleged to have overseen the upload and distribution of pirated Telugu films and OTT content through the iBomma platform. A case had been registered against Ravi and four others in September following complaints from Telugu film industry bodies citing significant financial losses due to piracy.
Ravi was apprehended at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport upon his arrival from France on Friday night and was subsequently handed over to the Kukatpally police for further investigation.
Investigations revealed that Ravi had been operating the website from the Caribbean islands. Multiple film producers had previously filed complaints against iBomma for uploading movies on their release day, severely impacting box office revenues.
