Two police canines from the Telangana State CID have been transferred to the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, according to CSW Headquarters ADCP Hanumantha Rao. With this addition, the total number of police dogs working under the Cyberabad Commissionerate has increased to 18. Of these, 12 are trained for explosive detection, two for narcotics detection, and four serve as tracker dogs.

The two newly inducted canines are ‘Rana’, a four-year-old Belgian Malinois, and ‘Rado’, a 10-year-old Labrador. Officials said these dogs will play a vital role in crime detection, identifying explosive substances, and tracking suspects. Their services will be effectively utilized under the supervision of BD Team RI Nagaraju, with support from RSI Venkatesh.

Police officials explained that the canine unit is categorized based on duties. Explosive detection dogs are deployed during VIP events, public representatives’ meetings, anti-sabotage checks, and in response to threat calls. Tracker dogs assist in identifying suspects, tracing missing persons or objects, and uncovering crucial evidence during investigations. Narcotic detection dogs help identify drugs such as ganja, cocaine, methamphetamine, opium, MDMA, and heroin.

The Cyberabad Police K9 Squad has also earned recognition at state and national competitions. Narcotic detection canine ‘Teja’ won bronze medals at the 68th All India Police Duty Meet in Ranchi (2024–25) and the Telangana Police Duty Meet in Hyderabad. Explosive detection canine ‘Reena’ secured bronze medals at the Telangana Police Duty Meets held in Hyderabad (2024) and Warangal (2025).
