"Selective response for Constitution"; T-BJP slams Congress, AIMIM

Telangana BJP chief spokesperson and media in-charge N.V. Subash on Wednesday accused the Congress and AIMIM of adopting a “selective approach” towards the Constitution and Constitutional institutions. Reacting to the political controversy over the recent Allahabad High Court verdict concerning hijab and school uniform rules, Subash alleged that Congress and AIMIM leaders questioned the judgment instead of respecting the judicial process.

He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi frequently carries a copy of the Constitution and AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi repeatedly raises the slogan “Samvidhan khatre mein hai”, but alleged that their responses to judicial verdicts reveal a different approach towards Constitutional institutions. Subash said the High Court had upheld the school’s prescribed dress code in the case involving a Class XI student seeking permission to wear a hijab, and said Constitutional principles and institutional discipline should apply uniformly. 

“The real respect for the Constitution lies in respecting the judiciary, accepting its verdicts and upholding the rule of law - even when the outcome is inconvenient”, Subash said. He cited the BJP’s response to the Ayodhya dispute as an example of its alleged respect for the judicial process, asserting that the party had accepted the Supreme Court’s decision despite the political sensitivity of the matter. Subash accused the Congress and AIMIM of questioning Constitutional institutions when their decisions do not suit their political or ideological positions and said the voters would ultimately judge their “selective respect” for the Constitution.
