Drug case allegations, devastating: Actress Hema

Telugu actress Hema turned emotional at a Press Meet organized by the Film Critics Association at the Telugu Film Chamber on Monday, saying the drug case allegations left her “mentally devastated”.

“I felt like dying at that moment”, she said, recalling the peak of controversy. Hema maintained she had done no wrong and has since been cleared, but alleged that sections of the media spread baseless reports that deeply affected her family.

While criticizing irresponsible coverage, the actress said she still believes fair journalism and hopes the media will present her truth going forward.

Association representatives, including association president Battula Prasad Rao, said the platform was meant to let her voice her side, noting that misinformation - especially on social media - has increasingly impacted both the artists and journalists.

Suresh Kondeti, association general secretary said that Hema has held various positions in the Movie Artists Association (MAA) and has always supported women in the industry whenever they faced issues. "I have often been surprised by her courage. It is heartbreaking that such a brave woman had to suffer so much due to false news. We are happy she has emerged innocent, and she is here today to share both her joy and her pain", he added.
