In a major road safety initiative, Cyberabad and Hyderabad Traffic Police apprehended a total of 959 individuals for drunk driving during recent special enforcement drives, with several offenders registering dangerously high Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels.
Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a weekend drive, arresting 424 offenders. Vehicle-wise, the cases included 300 two-wheelers, 18 three-wheelers, 99 four-wheelers, and seven heavy vehicles. Among them, 361 offenders had BAC levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 43 offenders ranged from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 20 recorded extremely high levels of 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Traffic Police ran a two-day operation on November 21 and 22, catching 535 drunk drivers, including 430 two-wheelers, 39 three-wheelers, and 66 four-wheelers and other vehicles.
Authorities emphasized that driving under the influence is a grave offence. Individuals found driving while intoxicated and causing fatal accidents can face stringent action under Section 105 of the BNS, 2023, relating to Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder. Police urged citizens to prioritize road safety and avoid alcohol while driving.
