The Hyderabad Narcotics Police Station (HNPS) of Eagle Force has arrested six students from a reputed Hotel Management Institute in Begumpet, Hyderabad, following credible intelligence and surveillance operations.
During the enquiry, 11 students voluntarily admitted to consuming Ganja. Subsequent urine drug tests, conducted in the presence of their parents and the college principal, revealed that six students tested positive for THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), a banned psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act, 1985.
The students who tested positive are Sakshi Emaliya (22), Mohit Shahi (21), Shubham Rawat (27), Carolina Cynthiya Harrison (19), Aric Jonathan Anthony (21), and Loy Baruah (22).
All six are final-year students of the Bachelor’s in Catering Technology and Culinary Arts program at the Culinary Academy of India. The Ganja consumption reportedly occurred during a birthday party of one of the students.
A case was registered under the NDPS Act. The students were counselled in the presence of their parents and college management, including Principal N Sudhakar Rao, and have been sent to a de-addiction Centre for rehabilitation. If they complete the programme successfully, the criminal case will be withdrawn, said police.
