On the occasion of World Cancer Day (February 4), the Oncology Department of Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad, organized a special press awareness program under the theme “United By Unique. ”

Cancer survivors participated in the program and shared their personal journeys, highlighting the critical importance of early detection and timely treatment. Dr. Nived Rao Balmoori, Consultant Surgical Oncologist said, “India records approximately 14 lakh new cancer cases every year. Statistics indicate that one in nine individuals is likely to develop cancer during their lifetime. However, more than 50 percent of cancer cases are preventable or curable if detected at an early stage,” he said.

Dr. Gautham, Consultant Medical Oncologist, emphasized the role of modern cancer treatments, stating,“Fear and misconceptions about cancer continue to delay treatment. With the availability of advanced treatment options such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, initiating treatment early significantly improves outcomes and quality of life.”

Medicover Hospitals distributed Family Cards to cancer survivors and their families, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to providing continued medical support even after completion of treatment.
