Eight brand-new Maruti Suzuki cars were completely gutted after a container lorry caught fire on NH-44 near Nagulapalli Bridge in Tupran of Medak district on Thursday.

According to police, the vehicle was transporting the cars from Kamareddy towards Hyderabad for delivery to Kakinada when flames suddenly erupted from the engine compartment of the lorry. The fire spread rapidly through the container, engulfing all the vehicles within minutes.

Fire department officials rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations to control the blaze. Though the container and all eight cars were destroyed, no casualties were reported in the incident. Police suspect that extreme summer temperatures may have triggered the engine fire. Traffic towards Hyderabad on NH-44 was temporarily stopped as firefighters carried out rescue and cooling operations at the accident site.

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
