End of vote chori will end BJP rule: uttam

Metro India News | MIRYALGUDA : Senior Congress leader and Telangana Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy declared that the end of “vote chori” would mark the beginning of the end of the BJP’s rule at the Centre. Addressing a public meeting in Miryalaguda, he said the campaign against alleged electoral manipulation had gathered nationwide momentum.

Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the BJP was weakening democratic institutions to perpetuate itself in power. He urged Congress workers and citizens committed to democracy to join the struggle led by Rahul Gandhi. He said Congress workers in even the remotest parts of the country continued to demonstrate unflinching faith in the party despite electoral setbacks and political challenges.

“Rahul Gandhi will become the next Prime Minister, and the Congress will return to power in Telangana for a second consecutive term,” he asserted. Uttam Kumar Reddy said he had been elected six times as an MLA and once as a Lok Sabha member from constituencies falling under the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut.

He dismissed the BRS campaign against him over irrigation as false and politically motivated. He attributed the decline in rainfall and water availability to El Niño conditions that affected the southwest monsoon across Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Despite the difficult situation, the State government was regulating Nagarjuna Sagar water judiciously while preserving sufficient reserves for drinking-water requirements during the summer, he said.

Highlighting the Congress government’s welfare initiatives, Uttam said coarse rice supplied during the previous BRS regime was often not consumed by beneficiaries and was diverted into the illegal market. The Congress government had brought about a revolutionary change by supplying six kilograms of free fine rice per person every month to nearly 3.42 crore beneficiaries.

The Minister further assured that six ongoing lift-irrigation schemes in the Nagarjuna Sagar–Miryalaguda region would be completed during the present government’s term. He said the government had accelerated the works by providing additional funds. He reiterated that the long-pending SLBC tunnel would be completed by June 2028, bringing irrigation water to several lakh acres across the erstwhile Nalgonda district.
