British Columbia declares emergency
Thousands of people in Summerland are being evacuated due to intense wildfires. To the brave firefighters working tirelessly to keep people safe: thank you. Federal govt stands ready to help and support the Govt of British Columbia in these efforts. I’m keeping everyone forced from their homes in my thoughts and hoping they can return safely soon.

Ottawa: Canada’s British Columbia declared a state of emergency on Saturday as fast-spreading wildfires threatened communities and forced large-scale evacuations. British Columbia Premier David Eby said the emergency would give authorities additional tools to protect the public as conditions changed rapidly.
“The conditions of this fire are extremely dangerous and are changing minute by minute,” Eby said, adding that saving lives and supporting rescue efforts remained the government’s priority. Air evacuations were on for people cut off by the flames. A wildfire near Summerland forced 2,20,000 residents to flee and destroyed properties. Over 100 wildfires were active in Ontario, prompting evacuations and hitting train services.
