Recent heavy rains and floods have left a trail of destruction across Telangana’s road network, with damages estimated at nearly Rs 1,000 crore. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday directed officials to prepare a detailed report on the extent of losses and submit proposals for urgent reconstruction.
At a review meeting in the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, engineers informed the Minister that several culverts, minor bridges, and long stretches of highways had been washed away or severely damaged. Komatireddy instructed officials to assess the structural life of every asset and suggest durable rebuilding plans.
Assuring that the government was committed to providing strong and long-lasting roads, he said the works would be executed through the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). Tenders will be floated soon and works will begin once the monsoon subsides, he added.
The Minister also reviewed pending National Highway projects and urged officials to speed up clearances from the Centre. He said he had already held talks with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who assured positive support to Telangana’s proposals.
