Tension flared in Uddandarayunipalem of Guntur district after former MP and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Nandigam Suresh was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader. The victim, identified as Raju from Isukapalli, is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Mangalagiri for serious injuries sustained in the attack.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday night when a car speeding through Uddandarayunipalem drew Raju’s attention. He reportedly scolded the driver for reckless driving. Moments later, a group of men—allegedly followers of Nandigam Suresh—returned to the scene, assaulted Raju, and forcibly took him to Suresh’s residence. There, the assault allegedly continued, with Suresh, his brother Prabhudasu, and others physically attacking Raju.

Following the assault, Raju’s family rushed him to AIIMS Mangalagiri. His wife, Lakshmi, later filed a formal complaint at the Tulluru Police Station, triggering a police investigation. Based on her complaint, police registered a case against Nandigam Suresh and his associates, launching a search for other suspects involved.

The incident has reignited controversy around Suresh, who had recently been released on bail after spending nearly three months in jail in connection with a separate murder case in Amaravati. His latest arrest has once again brought him into the political spotlight for the wrong reasons.

On learning of her husband’s arrest, Suresh’s wife staged a protest at the Tulluru police station, alleging that the arrest was politically motivated and demanding his immediate release. She accused the police of acting unjustly and vowed to continue agitations until Suresh was freed.
