Gaura Purnima celebrations held at Hare Krishna Golden Temple

05-03-2026 12:00:00 AM

The auspicious festival of Sri Gaura Purnima, commemorating the transcendental appearance of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, was celebrated at the Hare Krishna Golden Temple, Banjara Hills. This year’s Gaura Purnima was significant as it coincided with a lunar eclipse—similar to the celestial alignment that occurred 540 years ago at the time of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s birth in 1486. A special alankara of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu adorned the altar, and darshan was opened to devotees later in the evening after the purification rites.

Devotees offered Chappan Bhog—56 varieties of sanctified preparations—including sweets, savories, fried delicacies and fruit offerings. Speaking on the occasion, His Grace Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Prabhuji , President of Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad, explained that Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared to inaugurate the Yuga Dharma of congregational chanting of the Holy Names in this age of Kali. Devotees from across the city participated in large numbers and joyfully took part in the ecstatic Hari Nama Sankirtan. Special initiative IING (Inti Intiki Nitai Gauranga) was also conducted, wherein families ceremonially received the Deities of Sri Sri Gaura Nitai for worship in their homes.
