Contrary to popular belief, Gen Z (born between 1997 and 2012) are not hooked to technology solely for entertainment. They also use online platforms as spaces for learning, connection, and self-expression.
Quora is a question-and-answer platform that allows users to ask anything and receive responses from people around the world. For Gen Z, it serves as more than just a Q&A site — it’s a space to explore topics such as education, mental health, relationships, and career choices. Tayyaba Fathima, a student from St. Joseph’s Degree and PG College, shared that she uses Quora to improve her writing and communication skills. Quora user Mogli Akshita said she often visits the site and frequently finds its answers among the top search results online.
Originally created for gamers, Discord has evolved into one of the most vibrant community platforms for Gen Z. It offers voice, video, and text chat services that allow users to create or join private spaces centered around specific interests. These servers function like digital living rooms where members can chat, study together, or share hobbies in real time.
For Gen Z users, Discord represents both comfort and connection. Whether it’s joining a server for K-pop fans, anime enthusiasts, or school study groups, young people use Discord to build tight-knit online communities. Ritam Nath, a Discord user, said he often uses the platform to interact within online communities and watch movies with friends. Similarly, Keshav Auditore shared, “I often use Discord for social connections and game streaming.”
While many Gen Z users turn to Discord for entertainment, it also plays a key role in fostering social interaction and community building. Reddit has also become a go-to platform for Gen Z. Many young users rely on it daily for online communication, advice, and recommendations, making it an integral part of their digital lives.
