The Telangana Mudiraj Mahasabha will celebrate its 11th anniversary on November 21, coinciding with World Fisheries Day. The organization has been instrumental in advancing the welfare of Telangana’s fishing community.

Over the past decade, the Mahasabha has achieved notable successes, including government allocation of land for Mudiraj Bhavans, Rs 1,000 crore in welfare schemes, free annual fish seed distribution worth Rs 850 crore, and enhanced accident insurance for fishermen from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. The group also secured membership rights for every adult Mudiraj in the Fisheries Department and formed nearly 1,000 new fishermen societies.

Leaders have now urged the state to implement promises under the Abhayahastam BC Declaration, including 42% reservations for BCs, shifting Mudirajs from BC-D to BC-A, and increasing funds for the Mudiraj Cooperative Corporation from Rs 50 crore to Rs 1,000 crore. The Mahasabha called for elections in fisheries cooperatives and sought legal rights for Mudirajs over local ponds and water bodies.

The Telangana Mudiraj Mahasabha General Secretary Palleboyina Ashok, President Uppari Narayana, Vice Presidents Pittala Venkata Narasayya, Balla Sattayya, and Bhadra Mouni Yadayya, along with Women’s President Mandula Varalakshmi, were present on this occasion.
