To prevent the spread of seasonal diseases like dengue and malaria, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has instructed officials to implement intensive and coordinated measures across Hyderabad. In a high-level review meeting held at GHMC headquarters on Tuesday evening, he mandated daily fogging operations between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., with Assistant Medical Officers held responsible for execution.

Each circle must carry out anti-larval operations (ALO) and fogging twice a day. Field teams will be provided prepaid cards for fuel purchases, replacing the earlier practice of issuing petrol or diesel coupons. This approach has already shown encouraging results in the Khairatabad zone. In the mornings, awareness programs on dengue and malaria will be conducted in schools and colleges.

Fogging will be planned zone-wise and monitored by Assistant Medical Officers and Zonal SEs. Residential colony drainage lines must be cleared to remove mosquito breeding grounds. In areas with dengue cases reported through PHCs and Basti Dawakhanas, intensified SOP-based containment measures are to be implemented. Corporators are to be kept informed of fogging schedules in their respective wards.

A special sanitation drive is underway, with an emphasis on timely garbage removal through Ramky SSR vehicles. Illegal hoardings, water stagnation, and unauthorized constructions along main roads are to be removed. Fogging must also cover walking tracks in parks and around lakes. Tree pruning and plantation near lakes will be taken up by the UBD department.

The Commissioner also reviewed tax collections, instructing Bill Collectors to meet targets and reassess residential properties used commercially. Stray dog sterilization and adoption drives will be intensified. The Chief Veterinary Officer will lead joint inspections of meat shops with food safety officers, with any suspected unsafe food sent for lab testing. Senior GHMC officials and zonal commissioners attended the meeting.
