Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi urged Hyderabad residents to maintain cleanliness as the monsoon season approaches. On Monday, she launched a pre-monsoon sanitation drive in NBT Nagar, Banjara Hills, emphasizing responsible waste disposal.

She advised citizens to hand over household waste to Swachh Autos and avoid dumping garbage in open areas, which can lead to mosquito infestations and health risks. Residents were also urged to refrain from discarding construction debris on roads or in drains and instead contact GHMC’s C&D Waste Management Plant for proper disposal.

Officials were directed to install harvest pits to prevent waterlogging and improve drainage. The mayor highlighted GHMC’s decade-long efforts to enhance civic amenities and stressed the need for collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness.  Additional Commissioner Raghu Prasad stated that the sanitation drive would clean Banjara Hills within five days, with sanitation workers ensuring thorough waste removal. Across Greater Hyderabad, 150 wards will undergo similar cleaning efforts.

Water Board GM Harishankar emphasized public safety during the monsoon, advising residents not to open red-marked manholes in waterlogged areas. Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanti assured that fogging and waste management measures would be intensified to prevent mosquito breeding.  Deputy Commissioner Sammaiah and other officials participated in the event, reinforcing GHMC’s commitment to a cleaner Hyderabad.
